The installation process differs slightly between our extruded aluminium gutter and cast aluminium gutter ranges.
ARP’s Sentinel Extruded Aluminium Guttering features a simple but innovative snap-fit jointing system. Its components are simply clipped down into position before they are injected using ARP’s unique Arbosil 3923 sealant and left to cure. Not only does this create a strong long-lasting joint, but the process is also easy and mess-free. Installation must be completed using ARP’s Aluminium Gutter Sealant. The Swedish manufacturer's half round profile gives a clean, consistent roofline on refurbishments, new builds, extensions and light commercial work, and it's a straightforward upgrade from uPVC for anyone wanting metal guttering that lasts.
Aluminium's low weight means lengths are easier to carry up ladders and scaffolding, fewer hands are needed on site, and jobs move faster than with cast iron. It won't rust, so corrosion isn't a concern, and its thermal movement is far lower than uPVC, so you get less of the joint creep, sagging and leaks that drive ongoing maintenance. The system includes rubber-sealed gutter joints, stop ends, angles and brackets designed to fit together precisely, so every install is repeatable. 125mm is the standard choice for most domestic roofs; step up to 150mm for larger roof areas, steep pitches, valley discharge or exposed sites.
Downpipe choice depends on the water each outlet has to carry: 75mm suits small catchments such as porches and garages, 87mm covers most houses, and 100mm maximises discharge where fewer outlets are wanted. Outlet number and position matter as much as pipe diameter. When fitting, position the gutter brackets to give a fall of 10mm per 3m length towards the outlet. Unsure on sizing? Yes. The 75mm, 87mm and 100mm round downpipes all connect to both the 125mm and 150mm half round gutters, so you can size outlets to the job without changing the gutter.
Aluminium is more rigid, moves far less with temperature changes and won't turn brittle under UV the way many plastics can. That makes it a longer-lasting upgrade when replacing tired plastic systems.
