Fascia Capping Boards

Fascia capping boards can be used to cover up existing timber fascia boards. They should only be applied to sound, rot-free existing timber that will be covered. Typically 9mm thick, capping boards come in a variety of board widths from 100mm to 275mm. Our fascia capping boards are all 5 metres long.

Features And Benefits Of UPVC Capping Boards

Our fascia capping boards are produced by FloPlast and Freefoam, two of the top PVC building product producers in the industry. Our FloPlast and Freefoam capping boards are 9mm and 10mm thick, respectively, and have a return leg with an internal measurement of 33mm on the bottom of the board. These capping boards serve as a support for the soffit system as well as an aesthetic finishing touch by allowing for a greater degree of tolerance for imperfections in the existing wood or brickwork.

These capping boards won't deteriorate because their outer skins are weather, chemical, and impact-resistant, and they are immune to insect infestation like all PVC products. This makes sure that after installation, very little care is needed other than the occasional wash down with soap and water.

These capping boards, like our UPVC fascia boards, may be moulded, drilled, nailed, and otherwise worked with conventional woodworking tools. They also have the advantage of being fire resistant because they are difficult to ignite and do not burn readily.

In addition, UPVC capping boards, which are essentially stain-resistant, simple to clean, and don't need to be painted, can be utilised as inside window boards when placed on top of preexisting timber window sills.

How To Measure Capping Boards

The length from tip to tip of fascia capping boards is measured externally. This means that a 150mm capping board will actually cover 141mm of the existing fascia and a 175mm capping board will cover 166mm of existing fascia because the bottom return lip of the capping board is 9mm thick. Take a quick look at the brief video below, which visually illustrates this if it sounds a little unclear.

Different Styles Of Fascia Capping Boards

We stock three different styles of UPVC capping board.

There are two sizes of standard L shaped boards available for people seeking a straightforward, uncomplicated finish. These 9mm and 10mm thick capping boards have a slightly rounded edge that gives them a comparable appearance to our widely used Standard 18mm UPVC replacement fascia boards line. These UPVC capping boards typically come in 5m lengths and have widths ranging from 100mm (4") to 275mm (11").

We now have ogee capping boards for individuals that desire extra detail in the eaves. These have a decorative line that is moulded on the front of the board, adding to the elegance of the period. This elegance can be further accentuated when used with our ogee gutter Systems. These boards have a standard length of 5m and a width that ranges from 150mm (6") to 250mm (10").

Colour Options For Capping Boards

The standard L-shaped boards that we stock come in white, four different woodgrain colours (Anthracite Grey, Black Ash, Golden Oak, and Rosewood), and two smooth finish colours (Storm Grey and Dark Grey). Rosewood has a colour finish similar to mahogany, but it also has an improved grain pattern.

White is the most widely used colour for this type and is therefore available in the ogee capping boards.

Guarantee Of UPVC Capping Boards

Our UPVC capping boards come with a 10-year guarantee against discolouration and poor product performance.

Are UPVC Capping Boards Safe?

According to BS 476-7: 1997, FloPlast capping boards have a Class 2Y surface spread of flame rating. The material does have a tendency to scorch and may crumble when exposed to fire, despite the fact that the spread of flame across PVC's surface is constrained. The smooth finish capping boards made by Freefoam comply with the specifications for Class 1 and Class 1Y resistance to the spread of flames.

The roof trim system may or may not have a major impact on the overall fire performance of any roof on which it is put. It is crucial that the box be firestopped at compartment walls with a proprietary fire stop material where it is customary to carry the eaves box over, between houses.

Fascia Capping Board Installation Instructions

2 x 50mm Polytop nails spaced no more than 600mm apart for white boards and 400mm apart for woodgrain boards are recommended for fixing UPVC capping boards. This means that you should allow 18 nails per board for white and 26 nails per board for woodgrain.

Only wood free of rot or other types of degradation, such as warping, should have fascia capping boards installed; any wood that is deemed inappropriate should be replaced.
