How Important Is The Felt That Hangs In The Gutter?

The bottom course of felt on a roof, called Sarking Felt, ensures that all of the rainwater is correctly channeled into the gutter by protecting the eaves from any wind-driven rain. If this felt is either incorrectly situated (i.e. trapped behind the guttering) or if it is badly weathered it needs to be replaced. This involves stripping back the last few courses of tile or slates to remove the old felt and re-fix the new.

Sarking felt when correctly installed should hang down inside the gutter. Felt support trays can be used to stop the felt from sagging in between each rafter, and our eaves felt support tray can be used to replace old and damaged felt.
